perisperm
The perisperm is a nutritive tissue in the
seeds of some plant
species. It surrounds the embryo and originates from cells of the
nucellus and is genetically a part of the mother plant (e. g. in many Caryophyllaceae – Pink
family members) (cf. also
endosperm).
