fleshy fruit

Fleshy fruits have a mostly sappy pulp which typically serves as a bait for animals to enhance endozoochory. It can be berries (e. g. in Ribes – Gooseberry), drupes (e. g. in Prunus – Plum), pepos (e. g. in Bryonia – Bryony), aggregate fruits with pulp (e. g. in Fragaria – Strawberry) as well as fleshy infructescences (e. g. in Morus – Mulberry). The fleshy seed clusters in some Gymnosperms (e. g. in Juniperus – Juniper) are, by definition, not referred to as fruits.
