The Angiosperms form the largest and evolutionarily most advanced group within the Spermatophytes. Among other, they are characterised by the presence of carpels. Basic (evolutionary old) taxa are e. g. Magnoliaceae – Magnolia family or Aristolochiaceae – Birthwort family. Derived (evolutionary young) taxa are e. g. Campanulaceae – Lobelia family or Apiaceae – Carrot family.
