pappus

The term 'pappus' refers to the converted calyx in the Asteraceae – Daisy family. It is inserted above the hypogynous ovary and may consist of (pinnate) hairs (e. g. in Tragopogon – Goat's-beard), bristles (e. g. in Centaurea – Knapweed), hooks (e. g. in Bidens – Beggarticks) or small scales (e. g. in Leucanthemum – Daisy).
