addorsed phyllotaxy

With addorsed phyllotaxy, the prophyll is inserted between the main axis and the lateral shoot (cf. also transversal phyllotaxy). Addorsed prophylls are typical for Monocots, e. g. the upper glume in the spikelets of the Poaceae – Grass family may be interpreted as an addorsed prophyll of the spikelets-axis.
