keel

The term 'keel' generally refers to keel-shaped structures, mostly on the lower surface of foliage leaves (e. g. in Dactylis – Cocksfoot). Furthermore, the term 'keel' refers to the keel-shaped lower petals (keel-petals) of papilionate flowers in the Fabaceae – Pea family. They are mostly formed by reinforced leaf veins.
