germinule

A germinule is the part of diaspores (propagules) that contains the seeds. In species with fragile appendages, the germinule is formed only by a part of the diaspore (e. g. seeds without a tuft of hairs in Populus – Poplar). Diaspore and germinule are identical, if fragile appendages are absent (e. g. the seeds of Agrostemma – Corncockle).
