The petiole (leaf-stalk) is located between the stem (or leaf base) and the lamina and is mostly narrow-lineal and distinctly segregated from the lamina (e. g. in Acer – Maple). However, in other species the petiole gradually segues into the lamina (e. g. in Taraxacum – Dandelions) or is completely absent (e. g. in the Poaceae – Grasses).
