Chamaephytes are one of the life-forms according to Raunkiaer: the perennating buds are located approx. 10–50 cm above the soil and typically covered by snow in winter. Chamaephytes may be woody or herbaceous. It can be dwarf shrubs (e. g. Erica tetralix – Cross-leaved Heath), half shrubs (e. g. Vaccinium myrtillus – Bilberry) or herbs (e. g. Galeobdolon luteum – Archangel).
