In a strict sense, the term 'fruitlet', refers to the 'part-fruits' that develop from an apocarpous gynoecium (e. g. in Geum – Avens or Potentilla – Cinquefoil). Especially, nutlets (e. g. in Fragaria – Strawberry), drupelets (e. g. in Rubus – Raspberry) or follicles (e. g. in Trollius – Globeflower) can be distinguished. In a broader sense, the term may also include mericarps which develop from a schizocarp.
