bulb
A bulb is a storage organ (and/or reproductive organ) in which nutrients are stored in mostly fleshy
cataphylls (and/or
leaf bases) which are arranged on a shortened
stem. Mostly, the bulbs are formed underground (e. g. in
Allium – bulb). However,
daughter bulbs may also develop aboveground (e. g. in the
inflorescence of
Allium oleraceum – Field Garlic).
